UPDATE: Run-off between Blackmon & Walker for State House District 146

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Shaw Blackmon and Larry Walker will face each other during a run-off for the State Representative of House District 146 seat.

According to the unofficial results, Blackmon received 44% of the votes and Walker got 35%. Kelly Burke won 21% of the votes.

Friends, family, and supporters of Blackmon gathered Tuesday night in Warner Robins as the election results were announced. Blackmon says he is grateful for everyone’s support and is ready to keep his campaign moving forward.

“We feel like we had a good swing. Our momentum was there and we got a lot of energy left in it so we’ll be ready to go for these next three and a half weeks,” Blackmon said. “Hopefully we can get folks back out to the polls to support us.”

Walker’s friends, loved ones, and supporters cheered as they learned he was heading into the run-off. Walker says he is going to treat this race as if he’s starting over on a new election.

“We’re going to work hard and keep putting the message forward that we’re the candidate that’s going to put the people of Houston County first and we’re the candidate that can be effective to move Houston County forward,” Walker said.

A little more than 12% of Houston County’s registered voters cast ballots during Tuesday’s special election.

The run-off between Blackmon and Walker is on Tuesday, August 11.

The winner of the run-off will serve for one year to fill the unexpired term of former House Majority Leader Representative Larry O’Neal. He announced his resignation in April. The governor appointed O’Neal as the administrative law judge for the Georgia Tax Tribunal.
