UPDATE: Arrest made in south Macon hotel shooting that killed 26-year-old

Deputies say a 28-year-old man is charged with murder following a shooting at an Economy Hotel on Pio Nono Avenue.

UPDATE (1/1/26): Deputies say Malik Harris is also charged with a homicide on New Year’s Day.


UPDATE (1/1/26): Bibb County Sheriff’s Office investigators have arrested a suspect in connection with a deadly shooting on Pio Nono Avenue on December 23.

Deputies say 28-year-old Malik Harris was taken into custody just before 5:30 p.m. Thursday at River Bend Apartments on Mercer University Drive. Harris is charged with murder in the death of 26-year-old Travon Maurice Harden.

Harris is being held at the Bibb County Jail without bond.


UPDATE (12/23/25): The victim has been identified as Travon Maurice Harden of Macon. According to Chief Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley, the next of kin has been notified.

There were no other injuries reported.


ORIGINAL STORY (12/23/25):

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man is dead after being shot on Tuesday night in South Macon.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the Economy Hotel on Pio Nono Avenue just before 7:30 p.m.

That’s where deputies the found a man in the parking lot with a gunshot wound.

Paramedics then responded to the scene and took the victim to the hospital for treatment, but medical staff say he died from his injuries.

The victim has not been identified at this time, although Macon-Bibb County Cornoer Leon Jones confirms the man was 26 years old.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says investigators are currently on scene working to determine what led up to the shooting, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
