The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is releasing more details about a shooting that happened inside the Navicent Hospital in Milledgeville.

The shooting happened Tuesday morning just before 11am  at the hospital formerly known as Oconee Regional Medical Center.

The GBI says Baldwin County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Milledgeville Manor apartments to help someone expressing suicidal thoughts.

Deputies say the individual, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital by an ambulance and became aggressive with hospital staff including Navicent Health police officers.

The GBI says the individual was then tased and restrained.

Once the person calmed down, the GBI says the restraints were removed.

Moments later, the GBI says the patient tried to take a gun from one of the officers.

The GBI says officers were unsuccessful with attempts to tase the patient and that’s when the patient was shot by an officer during the struggle.

The patient remains at the Navicent Health in Macon, where he is listed in critical condition.

The Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office will handle the case once the investigation is complete.
