UPDATE: No school for Taylor County School District Friday
A Taylor County student was arrested after making threats against the school system, according to law enforcement and school district officials. The threats, shared on social media, were reported to local law enforcement Wednesday night.

UPDATE (9/13): Taylor County’s football game, originally scheduled for Friday night, has been moved to Saturday at 1 p.m., according to a post on Taylor County High School’s Facebook page Friday.
UPDATE (8:30 p.m.): The Taylor County School District says the district will be closed on Friday, September 13.
In an update posted on the high school’s Facebook page, Superintendent Jennifer Albritton said leaders believed the decision is “in the best interest of our school system and community.”
The decision comes after a student was arrested and accused of making a threat toward the school district.
“We still plan to host the football game tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.,” Albritton wrote. “Please know that the safety of our students and staff is our top priority.”
BUTLER, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Taylor County student was arrested after making threats against the school system, according to law enforcement and school district officials. The threats, shared on social media, were reported to local law enforcement Wednesday night.
“Last night, the District was made aware of a report made to local law enforcement regarding a threat made against our school system,” Taylor County Superintendent Jennifer Albritton wrote in a statement on Facebook. “It is my understanding that the report indicated that the threat was made by a student. Local law enforcement has made an arrest related to this threat, and there is an ongoing investigation.”
The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest in a separate Facebook post, revealing a deputy received a tip about the possible threat. Deputies then located the juvenile suspect, who admitted to posting the threats. The juvenile was taken into custody after law enforcement interviewed the suspect and the suspect’s grandparents. The juvenile was then taken to the Youth Detention Center (YDC). The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
“Taylor County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate any threats to the safety of our students or citizens!” Sheriff Jeff Watson wrote in the post. “The safety of our students and citizens is of the utmost importance. If you hear or see of a threat, do not hesitate to report it immediately.”
