UPDATE: Murder suspect in connection to the body found in a vacant Macon apartment is in custody

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The man wanted in connection to a body that was found on Roy Street last weekend is in custody at the Bibb County Jail.


MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man found dead Saturday in an abandoned apartment has been identified as 58-year-old Sammie Williams, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

Williams’ body was discovered at 2791 Roy Street around 1 p.m.

Bibb County Sheriff’s investigators are calling Williams’ death “suspicious.”

An arrest has been made in the case, according to a news release.

A murder warrant has been issued for Russell Rogers, 38, of Macon.

Rogers was arrested Sunday in Florida.

The Florida Highway Patrol apprehended Rogers while he was speeding in Williams’ car, continued the release. State police found other items belonging to Williams in the car.

Rogers is being held at the Lee County Jail in Fort Meyers, Florida awaiting extradition to Bibb County, added the release.

Jones added he was able to identify Williams by his pacemaker.

“An autopsy is being done today,” continued Jones.
