UPDATE (1/9 – 11 a.m.) –  Georgia State Patrol (GSP) says Monday night’s traffic delays on I-75 South in Houston County were caused by multiple crashes. Multiple people were injured, according to GSP, but due to the ongoing nature of the investigation and out of respect for the victims and their families, further details about the injuries are being withheld.

GSP says the initial collision happened at 7:50 p.m. near mile marker 136. Troopers on routine patrol discovered the multi-vehicle crash, which included a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Emergency responders assisted the victims and extinguished the fire.

GSP says vehicle #1 collided with vehicle #2, which was stationary on the east shoulder as part of a roadway cleaning operation.

After the impact, vehicle #1 was propelled into the middle lane, where it was struck by vehicle #3.

Traffic was diverted for approximately two hours. GSP says the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD) also participated in the investigation.

GSP says it’s still investigating.
