UPDATE: Man charged in Thursday night shooting in Milledgeville identified
53-year-old Willie Lee Carswell Jr. is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and recklessly endangering others.

UPDATE (1/26/24): Milledgeville Police have identified the man accused of shooting another man Thursday night.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One person is injured and another person is in police custody after a shooting Thursday at Elm City Package Store.
The Milledgeville Police Department (MPD) said in a news release Thursday night that officers responded to the store, located at 1557 Vinson Highway, just after 7 p.m. in reference to shots fired and a male subject down.
When officers arrived, they say they saw a male standing near the victim with a pistol in his hand. Witnesses told them the person with the weapon was the offender. MPD says officers took him into custody and began providing aid to the victim. Emergency services arrived and the victim was “turned over to them for further treatment.”
The alleged shooter was taken to the police department for further investigation. Police did not reveal any identities.
