UPDATE: Macon Teen Dead, Another Injured in Apparent Drive-By Shooting

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One Macon teen is dead and another is injured after an apparent drive-by shooting Thursday night.

The shooting happened outside a home at 2008 Cedar Avenue in South Macon.  Bibb County coroner Leon Jones says the teens were shot around 8:15 p.m.

According to a news release from the Macon Police Department, a 16-year-old female teen was standing outside the home with several other people at the time the shots were fired. MPD says a 13-year-old boy was in a car with a relative driving down Moseley Avenue when he was struck.

The victims are a 16-year-old girl who passed away and a 13-year-old boy who was shot in the head.

The boy was sent to the hospital. MPD says his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

“They just hang out with me,” said Undrea Gooden, the 16-year-old’s Godmother.  “They call me Ma-dukes and, he got shot in the head–13 years old–and now Alyssa’s dead.” “So, you know, it hits real bad, and it hurts real bad. . .a lot of these kids do a lot of things, a lot of shooting to get attention, but you need to get attention in the right way.”

MPD is investigating and is following up on numerous tips. Detectives are asking for the public’s help. If you have any information, call MPD at (478) 751-7500 or Crimestoppers at 1-877-68-CRIME.
