UPDATE: Man sentenced to life in prison for fatal Macon nightclub shooting
Prosecutors say the shooting happened outside a nightclub on Bloomfield Road in 2022.

UPDATE (1/8/26): A Bibb County jury sentenced a 23-year-old man to life in prison after convicting him in the fatal shooting of a security guard outside a Macon nightclub.
According to a news release from the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, Andrew Mullis was convicted on Wednesday, January 7 of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in the death of 42-year-old Dedrick Lamont Bulls. The court sentenced Mullis to life in prison plus five consecutive years.
According to the district attorney’s office, the shooting happened December 12, 2022, outside the Full House Tavern Nightclub on Bloomfield Road. Prosecutors said Mullis worked as a card dealer at the nightclub and had been told to leave after drinking too much but remained outside socializing with staff and patrons.
The district attorney’s office said Bulls was talking about boxing with his nephew when Mullis joined the conversation and claimed his brother was also a boxer. After being dismissed, Mullis called his brother and tried to involve him in the conversation. Prosecutors said Bulls reached for the phone to speak with Mullis’s brother, and Mullis pulled the phone away and drew a gun.
According to the release, Bulls struck the phone out of Mullis’s hand, and Mullis then raised the firearm and shot Bulls in the face. Bulls later died from his injuries.
During an immunity hearing in April 2024, prosecutors said Mullis testified that he feared for his life due to threats and bullying earlier that night. At trial, the district attorney’s office said Mullis changed his testimony, saying he felt threatened only at the moment of the shooting. Prosecutors said trial evidence contradicted both claims and that witnesses testified Bulls and others at the nightclub were not aggressive toward Mullis.
“Mr. Mullis spent hours socializing peacefully with the victim, only to pull a gun and shoot him in the face over a trivial dispute,” District Attorney Anita Howard said. “This senseless act of violence took a father, a friend, and a valued member of our community. The jury’s verdict and this life sentence reflect the gravity of his crime and our commitment to holding violent offenders accountable.”
