ORIGINAL STORY (7/9/24):

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Jones County Water System has issued a boil water advisory for several areas following a water main break that has disrupted water supply and caused low water pressure.

The advisory, issued out of caution, affects Lite N Tie Rd (Address 111-319), Clinton Crossing Drive, Twin Lakes Drive, Walnut Grove Road, Aaron Circle, Wesley Lane and Caitlyn Court, according to a news release from the Jones County Water System.

“There is the potential a health hazard may exist due to microbial contamination in these areas without positive pressure,” the release stated.

Customers experiencing water outages or low water pressure are advised to use only boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking, cooking and food preparation.

To properly boil tap water, heat it until bubbles rise quickly from the bottom of the container, continue heating for one minute after boiling, then allow it to cool before use. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends using boiled or bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, washing food, preparing food and baby formula, making ice and providing drinking water for pets. Other activities like cloth washing and dish washing can be done without boiling tap water if done properly.

The advisory remains in effect until the Jones County Water System completes appropriate testing to ensure no public health concern exists. Customers will be notified immediately once the advisory is lifted. After the advisory is lifted, customers should flush all faucets for at least two minutes before using water for drinking or food preparation.
