UPDATE: Jones County Boil Water Advisory lifted
Residents in affected areas were previously advised to use boiled or bottled water for safety

UPDATE (5/22/24): The Jones County Water System issued the all clear on Wednesday.
ORIGINAL STORY (5/20/24):
GRAY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Jones County Water System has issued a Boil Water Advisory for several areas due to a water main break that may disrupt water supply and cause low water pressure, potentially leading to microbial contamination.
The advisory, sent on Monday, May 20 “out of an abundance of caution,” affects the areas of 2810-2900 Gray Highway (between RL Wheeler Rd and the Chevron at Joycliff Rd), RL Wheeler Rd (only the few houses behind the old RL Wheeler Nursery), Old Gray Highway, Walnut Ridge, Crestwood Dr, Graham Rd, Stagecoach Rd, Upper River Rd from Stagecoach and River North Neighborhood, Old Lodge Rd, Stirk Rd, Saddle Ridge Cir, Coppergate Ln, and the entirety of the River North neighborhood.
Residents in these areas are advised to use only boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking, cooking and food preparation. To properly boil water:
- Heat water until bubbles rise rapidly from the bottom of the container.
- Continue boiling for one minute.
- Remove from heat and allow to cool before use.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends using boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, washing food and preparing food and baby formula, making ice, and providing drinking water for pets. Other activities, such as washing clothes and dishes, can be done without boiling water if done properly. Detailed CDC guidance can be found here.
The advisory will remain in effect until appropriate testing confirms there is no longer a public health concern. Residents will be notified immediately once the advisory is lifted. After the advisory is lifted, it is recommended to flush all faucets for at least two minutes before using the water for drinking or food preparation.
