UPDATE: Grand jury hearing finished with David Hooks case
The Hooks family attorney, Mitch Shooks, said David’s wife, Teresa, was one of several witnesses who testified Thursday.
A sheriff’s deputy shot and killed Hooks during a drug raid at his Dublin home on Sept. 24.
Special prosecuting attorney Chuck Spahos tells 41NBC the grand jury made a formal presentation to the court. A copy of the “presentments” was given to Laurens County Sheriff Bill Harrell. He has the opportunity to file a response, according to Spahos.
Spahos adds the original notice, presentments, and any response from Sheriff Harrell will be filed by the end of next week. At that time it will become public record.
The sheriff’s office released a statement saying Hooks was shot after he grabbed a gun and acted aggressively toward deputies. Sheriff Harrell isn’t commenting any further on the case.
Shooks claims deputies didn’t follow protocol when they served their search warrant.
