UPDATE: GDC releases additional information following stabbing death of inmate
Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones identified the man who died as 28-year-old Hollis Bryant.

UPDATE (12/18): The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) has provided additional details about the stabbing death of an inmate.
Joan Heath, the GDC’s Director of the Office of Public Affairs, confirmed the death on Monday, saying it happened as a result of an altercation with inmate Carlos Gadson.
“Bryant was sentenced to Life for Murder out of Toombs Co.,” Heath wrote in an email. “Gadson was sentenced to 20 years for Child Molestation out of Chatham Co. with a maximum release date of August 2027. ”
Bryant’s body will be transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab to determine the official cause of death. GDC’s Office of Professional Standards is investigating the death.
“While early indications are that Gadson was acting in self-defense, confirmation of such and other details are not available, as the investigation is ongoing,” Heath wrote.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An inmate died Sunday morning after being stabbed at Central State Prison.
Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says 28-year-old Hollis Bryant died in the emergency room around 1:30 after being stabbed about an hour earlier at the Fulton Mill Road prison.
According to Georgia Department of Corrections records, Bryant was serving a life sentence after being convicted of a 2019 murder in Toombs County.
