UPDATE (2/17/25): Four people, including a juvenile, have been arrested in connection with a shooting that left one man dead and another injured in Fort Valley, authorities announced Saturday.
During a news conference, Fort Valley Police Chief DJ Flores said investigators identified at least four suspects in the January 13 shooting that killed 24-year-old Kerry Ross Jr. and injured a 60-year-old bystander who was working on a nearby church. The suspects are now in police custody.
According to Flores, officers responded to the 600 block of North Miller Street around 4 p.m. and found Ross lying on the ground near an old church. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but he died at the scene. The 60-year-old man was shot in the arm.
Flores said law enforcement determined that several individuals met beforehand to confront Ross in the Vineville community, which led to an exchange of gunfire.
Investigators arrested Jakail Hillsman, also known as “Spoon,” on January 16. Alex Holden Jr. was taken into custody on January 29, followed by Demontae Lockhart on January 30. All three are charged with malice murder, felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
A 15-year-old juvenile was arrested on February 11 while sleeping in a vehicle after evading law enforcement for weeks, according to Flores. He faces the same charges.
Flores credited the Fort Valley Police Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Peach County Sheriff’s Office, and several other agencies for working “countless hours” on the case. The suspects were denied bond.
Authorities continue investigating to determine if additional suspects were involved. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Fort Valley Police Department.
