UPDATE: Driver identified in deadly I-16 crash, lanes reopen

According to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened just before 1:30.

UPDATE: (4 p.m.) – The driver killed in the deadly crash has been identified as 42-year-old Keith Bridgett of South Carolina, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say all lanes on I-16 have been reopened.


MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One person is dead after a crash on Interstate 16 east Thursday afternoon.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, it happened just before 1:30.

Witnesses reported that a driver of a Dodge Ram with a trailer collided with a semi-trailer truck. The Dodge Ram driver, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the semi-trailer truck was uninjured.

All lanes of Interstate 16 east are shut down, according to the sheriff’s office. Georgia Department of Transportation’s 511ga.org service shows the crash happened just past the SR 87/US 80/MLK Jr. Blvd. exit. As of 3:15 p.m., the site listed an anticipated incident end time of 11:45 p.m.
