UPDATE: Deputies searching for Houston County burglary suspect

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Multiple law enforcement agencies are helping the Houston County Sheriff’s Office in the search for an alleged burglary suspect.

According to Lt. David Carrick, a string of burglaries have taken place in the Perry area since July 1st.

Deputies spotted a silver Ford Mustang on Highway 26 in Pulaski County around 10:30 a.m. Thursday that is said to be involved in the burglaries.

A man and woman jumped out of the car and fled on foot.

The woman was captured and taken into custody.

The Perry Police Department and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office were among the agencies that helped search about a two square mile area where the man fled.

The terrain was heavily wooded and swampy.

Deputies used high-powered rifles and camouflage to aid in the search.

A Georgia State Patrol helicopter also helped.

Capt. Jon Holland with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were ready for the call.

“We don’t often have these extensive searches, but we do have some protocol in place, some things we try to do–setting up a perimeter and trying to maintain the suspect in a general area until we can get additional personnel in place and try to locate the suspect,” said Holland.

Holland said more than 40 deputies have been involved.
