UPDATE (3:35 p.m.) –  Twiggs County Schools lifted a Code Red lockdown Wednesday afternoon after a potential threat prompted heightened security at all three campuses, according to a Facebook update from the district.

According to a Facebook update, the lockdown began around 2 p.m. “due to a potential threat.” The district says the situation was investigated and resolved by TCPS Campus Police and local authorities.

“Twiggs County Schools thoroughly investigates all threats and works expeditiously to neutralize any threat or danger to any student or staff member,” the post read. “Officers from local agencies as well as Campus Police officers are assigned school and provide additional support and security as necessary. Additional safety measures have been put into place.”

The district says it’s committed to safety and issued a warning to those who make threats.

“Anyone found to be responsible for threats and/or hoaxes will be charged and disciplined in accordance with the law and the student code of conduct,” the post read.

Dismissal has resumed, but bus routes will be delayed.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – All three Twiggs County Public Schools went into a Code Red lockdown Wednesday afternoon following the identification of an active threat, according to a statement from the school district.

The district announced the lockdown at 2:38 p.m. in a post on its Facebook page.

“At this time, there will be no entrance/exiting from either location,” the post read. “An active threat has been identified. At this time, everyone is safe. Further information will be shared once available. The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is our top priority.”

One minute later, the district provided an additional update.

“Due to a security concern on the vicinity, we are taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety of all students and staff,” the post read. “Pickup will be temporarily delayed until we receive clearance from the appropriate authorities. We ask for your patience and understanding as we prioritize everyone’s safety.”
