UPDATE: Body found in Ocmulgee River identified, death ruled accidental drowning
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The body found in the Ocmulgee River yesterday has been identified. A family friend told Bibb deputies it’s 48-year-old Shean Atkinson. He was homeless and lived in a camp site near the river.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Atkinson’s death was an accidental drowning and there were no physical injuries on his body.
Bibb deputies need help identifying the man they found dead in the Ocmulgee River.
Bibb Coroner Leon Jones says the white male was found at 11:43 a.m. on Sunday about four miles from the Spring Street boat ramp. The victim was found laying next to a tree without any clothes.
Jones says the man has a full beard and the following tattoos: the name “Kellie” on his left arm, stars with the name “Booboo” on the left side of his chest and a crown with a lion and the name “Jesus” on the right side of his chest.
Jones says there was no visible trauma to the body. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
