UPDATE: Abducted Florida Child Found During Perry Traffic Stop

Onnika and CharityPERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An abducted child at the center of a Levi’s Alert Sunday was found in Middle Georgia during a traffic stop on interstate 75 near exit 136 unharmed.

According to the alert, six-year-old Onnika Fisher was abducted Friday afternoon in Jacksonville, Florida. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says the abduction happened at the Jewish Family & Community Services Center during a supervised Florida Department Children and Families visit with the child’s mother, 39-year-old Charity Chatman.

The sheriff’s office says during the visit, Chatman grabbed Onnika and drove off in a 2000 dark green Buick Century. During the initial investigation, deputies say they were concerned for the welfare of the child because her mother has a documented history of mental illness.

41NBC’s Taylor Terrell spoke to Perry Police Captain of Patrol William Phelps who says-when stopped and questioned-Chatman told officers she did not know where she was going.

“She only said that she wanted to talk to someone about a domestic violence situation,” according to Phelps.

Onnika and her mother were found during a traffic stop in Perry Sunday. Chatman was arrested on an outstanding warrant for interference with child custody.

Onnika will be returned to the Florida Department of Children and Families.
