Two women killed in Wilkinson County auto accident
Two women were killed on Popular Springs Road in Toomsboro. Authorities say the driver of an SUV lost control of the car they were riding in.
The accident happened Tuesday between 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m, according to Wikinson County Coroner Billy Mathews.
There were six people inside the SUV. They were on the way to a revival at Jordan Spring Church. Two were children. Four people were taken to the hospital.
The driver, Ronald Shinholster of Irwinton, was going east on Poplar Springs Church Road when he lost control of the car, said Sheriff Chatman. The SUV flipped over several times, ejecting 72-year-old Daisy Dell Sims and 67-year-old Joann Johnson. They were pronounced dead at the scene, Chatman added.
The sheriff said speed may have been a factor in the accident.
“It could have been that it was raining or the driver could have had a medical emergency behind the wheel,” said Chatman. “We don’t know.”
The accident happened just miles away from Jordan Springs Church on Highway 112.
The coroner says he took the bodies to GBI lab Wednesday.
