Two teachers put on leave after bumps were found on special needs student’s head

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) -Two Bibb County teachers were placed on administrative leave as the Bibb County School District and Sheriff’s Office are investigating an incident.

According to an e-mail from BCSD director of communications, Stephanie Hartley, on November 8th, the mother of a special needs student at Heritage Elementary School brought concerns to the school. She noticed bumps on her 7-year-old boy’s head. The school then placed the teacher and paraprofessional, who teach his classroom, on paid administrative leave.

Human Resources is looking into the case. Social workers notified DFCS and they told the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Heritage principal, Jennifer Askew, sent out a letter to students’ parents November 15th. It stated there is an investigation going on.

“I am not able to go into further details about this incident, but I want to assure you that the safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance,” said Askew. “Please know the expectation is that our school will be a safe and secure environment for all.”
