Two Monroe County women arrested for filing fraudulent tax returns

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Two Forsyth business owners were arrested Thursday for filing fraudulent tax returns.

Cathie Simpson, 45, and Donna Simpson, 40, both work for Legacy Tax Service.

A former employee of Legacy Tax Service contacted law enforcement.

She reported her tax preparer number was being used without her consent to file fraudulent tax returns.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Revenue began a joint investigation into the matter, revealing Donna and Cathie Simpson had filed the fraudulent returns.

Cathie Simpson is charged with three counts of false statements and documents, while Donna is charged with one count of the same.

Both were arrested and released on bond from the Monroe County jail.

Clients  of Legacy Tax service needing assistance filing tax returns should call the Department of Revenue at 877-423-6711 and choose option two when prompted.
