Two Macon evacuation shelters full, another opening

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Within nearly 24 hours of opening, two shelters in Macon for Hurricane Irma evacuees are full.

The Frank Johnson Recreation Center on Mercer University Dr. is opening immediately for other evacuees needing shelter.

The East Macon Recreation Center opened Thursday afternoon and the North Macon Recreation Center opened Friday morning.

According to Macon-Bibb spokesperson Chris Floore, the East Macon Recreation Center filled up with around 130 people. The North Macon shelter filled up with around 150 people.
