Two arrested after multiple overnight shots fired calls, crash and chase in Milledgeville

Antonio Spencer and Shawn Spencer arrested after vehicle pursuit, drone surveillance and multiple shots fired calls; minor injuries reported.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Police arrested two men early Friday after someone fired shots into a home and later led officers on a chase through Milledgeville, according to a news release from the Milledgeville Police Department.

“Fortunately, only minor injuries were reported during these events,” the release said.

It all started around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, when the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots fired call on Lee Street. Less than an hour later, at 11:18 p.m., Milledgeville police received reports of a speeding maroon vehicle missing a tire traveling north through downtown on North Wayne Street, but officers were unable to find it.

Three minutes later, a man later identified as Antonio Spencer flagged down Lieutenant Thompson in front of the Milledgeville Police Department, claiming someone was trying to kill him. Officers say he appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. EMS took him to the hospital.

At 1:35 a.m., officers responded to another shots fired call on Pine Valley Road, where they found a home had been struck by gunfire. Investigators learned the home belonged to Antonio Spencer and that he was connected to the maroon sedan reported earlier. Officers later found the car crashed in the woods at the dead end of North Wayne Street. Detectives spoke with Spencer at the hospital, but he gave “little to no information” about the crash or the shots fired. He was released shortly after.

At 5:15 a.m., the deputies responded to a second shots fired call on Lee Street. Deputies spotted a suspect vehicle and began a chase.

The chase went down Swint Avenue, through the Central State grounds and several side streets before ending on Vinson Highway. The vehicle stopped in a driveway on Bell Avenue, and two people ran into the woods.

Using a drone, officers found the men in the woods near Bell Avenue and Edwards Street. Deputies and officers took both into custody and identified them as Antonio Spencer and Shawn Spencer. Police say Antonio Spencer had a rifle when he was arrested.
