Twiggs County administrator confiscates toy weapon from student’s backpack
Officials said the item was determined to be a toy, and no students or staff were at risk.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Twiggs County school administrator confiscated a toy weapon from a student’s backpack on a bus Thursday morning, according to the Twiggs County School District.
In a statement, the district said the transportation department was made aware of a potential weapon being carried onto a bus. An administrator found the item, determined it was a toy, and reported it to central office staff and the proper authorities.
“Twiggs County Schools thoroughly investigates all threats and works expeditiously to neutralize any threat or danger to any student or staff member,” the district said in a release. “School administration, TCPS Campus police and local authorities work together to solve every issue in a timely and efficient manner.”
“The safety of students and staff is our utmost priority,” Superintendent Dr. Mack Bullard added.
The district said anyone found responsible for threats or hoaxes will face charges and discipline under the law and the student code of conduct. Twiggs County Schools says it may use Infinite Campus and Remind to notify parents and students as needed.
