JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Twiggs County Public Schools is going through leadership transition with the retirement of Superintendent Dr. Mack Bullard and the appointment of an interim superintendent.

District officials announced Friday that Dr. Bullard is retiring after nearly five years leading Twiggs County Public Schools and 33 years in education. In a post shared by the district, officials credited Bullard with improvements in teacher retention, expanded partnerships and a focus on preparing students for future success.

According to the district, during his tenure, the district reported year-over-year increases in graduation rates, expanded educational programs through partnerships with Georgia Tech, Central Georgia Technical College and Bibb County’s Hutchings Career Academy, and established updated curriculums across elementary, middle and high schools.

“Dr. Mack Bullard, thank you for being a champion for our students, a supporter of our teachers, a mentor to our leadership and an advocator of our community,” the district wrote in its announcement.

About two hours later, the district shared a second post announcing Tyrone Bacon as interim superintendent.

Bacon said he is honored to serve during what he described as a “transition to a transition” for the district. He said it’s time to “steady the foundation,” “recognize our strengths” and “prepare thoughtfully for what comes next.”

“While we have faced challenges, I am encouraged by the resilience, dedication and heart that our staff continue to show every day on behalf of our students,” Bacon said. “That commitment is the true strength of Twiggs County.”

According to the district’s website, Bacon serves as the district’s Executive Director of Operations.
