Twiggs County Public Library Remains Closed Until Further Notice

JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Twiggs County Public Library is closing, and will remain that way–at least for now.

The Board of Commissioners met tonight at the courthouse and they didn’t have enough votes to keep the library open.

Two commissioners didn’t vote, saying they wanted more information on the library’s funding.

Commissioner Donald Floyd motioned for the vote after hearing public comments, but many who spoke out wanted a decision made tonight.

Jeff Johnson, a citizen of Jeffersonville, voiced his opinion to the Board and felt let down when commissioners failed to make a decision.

“I’m just a little disappointed that there was not any resolution brought from this meeting. Regardless of whether there’s any fact whether the library’s gonna close nobody knows,” said Johnson. “There’s been no answers–no resolution brought to that as a result of this meeting. Most of the commissioners abstained from voting, for at least extending it through November, and that wasn’t accomplished tonight.”

A disagreement between Commissioner Tommie Lee Bryant and Chairman Ken Fowler temporarily interrupted the meeting before the library vote, almost resulting in Commissioner Bryant being forced to leave the room.

However, the chairman called the sheriff to the front to keep the peace, and they resolved the issue quickly.

Not a single member of the library board was at tonight’s meeting.
