Twiggs Co. Schools Encourages E-SPLOST Voters
JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – After students graduate from high school–the real world awaits.
For Twiggs County Schools, preparing students for the next chapter is the top goal.
But to do it well, it costs a pretty penny.
The future looks bright.
“With my youngest daughter–with her being in elementary school, she’s gotta come to high school,” said Baute.
Twiggs County parent Valerie Baute is looking toward the future, and what she sees, she likes.
“For me, the growth of the school and anything that will make the school you know, prosper and grow is great,” said Baute.
The Twiggs County School system knows students are stepping into a technology-filled world.
And that’s what the county’s education penny tax does… The board of education met with parents thursday night to encourage them to vote for it again.
The education special purpose local option sales tax allows the system to fund many different projects.
“It is very important to have stakeholder involvement,” said Dixon. “We cannot do it alone. We need the community of Twiggs County to come together to promote education within this community.”
Twiggs County Superintendent Elgin Dixon detailed different projects he hopes the community will embrace for its schools.
“We need additional bandwidth within our community the technology infrastructure that we have as well as we need to continue to improve our transportation system,” said Dixon.
A bright future does sometimes require a bit of cash to back it up, but Dixon is confident voting yes to the ESPLOST will be worth it.
“We want our kids to be exposed to all of the opportunities that other kids, regardless of where they live, are exposed to,” said Dixon.
The presentation also reviewed what the last E-SPLOST money has done.
That money helped pay for a take home laptop for all the high school students.
The county will vote on the E-SPLOST in May.
