Tuesday to be soggy for much of Middle GA

MACON, Georgia. (41NBC/WMGT) – A system just off of Georgia’s Atlantic Coast is bringing lots of rain to the southern half of the state today.
Today
Gloomy. Soggy. Those are the two words to describe the weather for today. If there was a third word to add it would be chilly. Temperatures around Middle GA will not eclipse the 50 degree mark. In fact, most will level off around 45 degrees, not warming much from the morning hours. Northerly winds at 6-12 mph will add a wind chill to the already cold and humid atmosphere. Thick clouds will blanket the region until after nightfall, and rain will be seen throughout the day. For those in the northern and more western counties, the rain will likely be periods of shower activity that stop and go. These places shouldn’t accumulate more than .25 to .5 inches of rain. Those in the more southeasterly counties could see upwards of an inch of rain if not more as they will see longer periods of moderate to heavy rainfall.
Overnight tonight the cloud cover will break up, but a few showers will remain possible early. The wind will shift to the northwest at about 10 mph as the system clears out and high pressure begins to move into the region. Overnight low temperatures will fall into the mid to upper 30s across the region.
Tomorrow
For the first time since early last week, the sunshine returns in all of its glory. The skies will remain clear throughout the day on Wednesday with high temperatures jumping around 15 degrees from Tuesday. The winds will still be blowing out of the northwest at 10-15 mph, but thanks to sunny skies, it won’t matter (it will overnight, however). There may be a couple of thin clouds that form during the afternoon, but outside of that the skies should stay clear. It will also be noticeably less humid.
Overnight the skies will remain clear, and thanks to the lack of insulation along with those northwesterly winds, low temperatures will drop below freezing around Middle GA, bringing on the coldest morning this season. It would be a good idea to drip your faucets overnight tomorrow night to avoid any pipe bursts as well as bring in any plants or pets. You can also spray your plants with water ahead of the freeze to help protect them; when the water freezes it will release heat onto the plants to keep them warm.
Thursday and Friday
The winds will shift to the south come Thursday, allowing moisture to begin build up in Georgia once again. Temperatures will be near identical to Wednesday afternoon, however the skies may see a couple more clouds than the day prior. Overnight temperatures will fall into the lower 30s, but should be above freezing for about half of the region.
Friday will begin to see more cloud cover build as southwesterly winds add more moisture to the atmosphere. The speed will also pick up from about 5 mph to about 10 as the day goes on. High temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 60s thanks to the warm air advection and mostly sunny skies. Low temperatures will jump almost 20 degrees as more cloud cover builds overnight and southwest winds add more moisture and heat to the region heading into Christmas morning.
