Tucker Road to close for up to 90 days for bridge work in north Macon

The closure is part of a major bridge reconstruction project over Rocky Creek near Interstate 475.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A long-term closure is coming to Tucker Road in north Macon as the Georgia Department of Transportation moves into the next phase of a major bridge reconstruction project.

GDOT says Tucker Road between Foster Road and Peake Road will close to through traffic starting at 8 a.m. Friday, January 16. A signed detour will be in place while crews replace the existing bridge over Rocky Creek.

The closure is expected to last up to 90 days and is part of a larger project that includes construction of a new bridge and roadway approaches on Tucker Road over Interstate 475 and Rocky Creek. The overall project spans about half a mile, with completion currently scheduled for January 2027.

This work follows preliminary construction activity in October, when GDOT temporarily closed Tucker Road for one week to relocate utilities ahead of the bridge reconstruction.

C.W. Matthews Contracting is performing the work.

GDOT advises drivers to expect delays in the area and to use caution near work zones. Drivers can check real-time traffic conditions by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or using the Georgia 511 mobile app.
