Tubman Museum says farewell to old location

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Tubman Museum is getting ready to move into its new home.

There was a farewell party at the old location on Walnut Street Friday night. The collections have been at that site since 1981.

Over the next several weeks, officials will move and install the exhibits into the new museum.

“We out-grew it a long time ago, in terms of our collections, our audience, and even our programs,” Andy Ambrose, the museum’s executive director said. “We’re going from an 8500 square foot facility here to a 49,000 square foot facility, so we’re going to have all that space we’ve been missing.”

The grand opening of the new Tubman Museum is scheduled for May 16th.
