MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Former President Donald J. Trump has announced Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio as his Vice Presidential pick for the 2024 election, just two days after surviving an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The announcement comes on the first day of the Republican National Convention.

“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

Trump wrote about Vance’s career and dedication to serving the country, mentioning his service in the Marine Corps, his summa cum laude graduation from Ohio State University and his Yale Law School credentials.

“J.D. will continue to fight for our Constitution, stand with our Troops, and will do everything he can to help me MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” Trump wrote.

Vance is the author of the best-selling memoir “Hillbilly Elegy,” which was adapted into a movie partially filmed in Macon in 2019.

Moments after Trump’s post on Truth Social, Trump was officially nominated as the Republican Nominee for the 2024 presidential election.
