Treutlen County couple faces murder charges in death of 2-year-old

SOPERTON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Treutlen County mother and her boyfriend are behind bars for allegedly killing her son.

22-year-old Porshia Johnson and 21-year-old Travis Jordan were arrested after an investigation into the death of her 2-year-old son, Aerick McManus.

According to Eve Rogers with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, a call from a Barwick Avenue home came in around 9:45 a.m. Thursday May 14, to Treutlen County 911 in reference to an unresponsive child in a pool.

The Soperton Police Department and Treutlen County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene and were told the child was found in that manner.

Local authorities began working with the GBI to determine what caused the death.

Results from a May 16 autopsy shows Aerick died from blunt force trauma to the stomach and the manner of death a homicide.

Johnson and Jordan was arrested and taken to the Treutlen County Jail.

Johnson is charged with felony murder and cruelty to children. Jordan is charged with felony murder, malice murder, cruelty to children, and aggravated assault.

No bond has been set.
