Thursday begins series of windy days

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A cold front passing through Middle Georgia this evening will bring plenty of wind and cold Thursday.
This Evening
It’s largely been overcast thus far around Middle Georgia however some cloud breakup has been observed late in the afternoon. Expect these to fill back in some ahead of tonight as another round of showers is expected when the cold front arrives. Clouds will begin to clear following the end of shower activity. Wind will remain out of the southwest at 10-15 mph through the evening, however following the frontal passage it will shift to out of the northwest. Gusts will stay over 20 mph during this timeframe and likely will still be at 20+ mph heading into the sunrise on Thursday. Expect wake-up temperatures to be below freezing around the region. It shouldn’t be cold enough to night to need to drip faucets however Middle Georgians should bring in any outdoor pets or small plants.
Tomorrow
The sunshine will be back on Thursday but it won’t help much to keep warm. Temperatures will only climb into the lower 40s for most of the region, however with winds out of the northwest ranging 10-20 mph with some gusts reaching over 30 mph the wind chills for many may not even reach 40 degrees.
Overnight will be clear and frigid and dripping faucets will be a must. Temperatures will reach their valleys in the lower 20s (possibly a couple in the upper teens) as the winds remains out of the northwest at 5-10 mph.
Friday and Beyond
The wind will shift back to out of the southwest (5-12 mph gusting to 17+ mph) on Friday which should enable temperatures to climb back into the 50s for the afternoon. Skies will once again be sunny. The weekend is a tricky forecast at this point as several models are seeing different things when it comes to precipitation odds. One thing is for sure though: it will be cold and pretty windy.
