Three arrested in drone prison drop attempt at Washington State Prison

Deputies arrested three men late Friday night after they were caught trying to drop contraband into Washington State Prison using a drone, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

DAVISBORO, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Deputies arrested three men late Friday night after they were caught trying to drop contraband into Washington State Prison using a drone, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Just before midnight, deputies responded to West Brown Drive in Davisboro after receiving reports of “several suspicious individuals,” the sheriff’s office stated in a Facebook post. Additional deputies in the area quickly arrived and launched an investigation.

It was soon determined that the individuals were in Davisboro attempting a prison drop at Washington State Prison,” the post stated.

During the investigation, deputies say they recovered a drone, a drone controller connected to a cellphone and drawstring bags containing suspected contraband, including marijuana, tobacco and Promethazine.

Deputies arrested three suspects:

  • 20-year-old Emmarrion Murray of Jonesboro
  • 27-year-old Serpico Evans of East Point
  • 23-year-old Alfonso Horton of Forest Park

All three are charged with trading with inmates (felony), conspiracy to commit a felony (felony), possession of marijuana with intent to distribute (felony), and possession of a Schedule V controlled substance with intent to distribute (felony).

Evans faces an additional charge of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony (felony).

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the case.

The sheriff’s office has now reported five contraband attempts at the prison since the start of this year.
