The End Zone Week 6: Macon County at Hawkinsville is 41NBC’s Game of the Week

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Undefeated Macon County visits Hawkinsville Friday for 41NBC’s Game of the Week as The End Zone returns with highlights from six Middle Georgia matchups.
41NBC sports anchor Rob Schiff will report live from Hawkinsville during 41NBC News at 5, 5:30 and 6.
Bill Shanks will have Friday night’s highlights from the studio during 41NBC News at 11. Tucker Sargent will join him with highlights from Westside at Mary Persons, while Rob will have coverage of the Game of the Week.
The End Zone will also feature the Lineman of the Week, Band of the Week and scores from around Middle Georgia.
Game of the Week: Macon County at Hawkinsville
Macon County brings a 3-0 record to Bobby Gentry Stadium after beating Manchester 41-14 last week.
The Bulldogs, led by head coach Spoon Risper, are averaging 41 points per game.
Hawkinsville is 1-2 under head coach Tim Suttles. The Red Devils had last week off after losing two straight games and will try to get back on track before opening region play against Dooly County next week.
Friday marks the teams’ first meeting since 2019. Macon County shut out Hawkinsville in their three most recent meetings, in 2017, 2018 and 2019. The Red Devils last beat the Bulldogs in 2011.
Westfield at Stratford
Westfield and Stratford will try to rebound from losses when they meet at Cantrell Football Stadium.
The Hornets are 3-2 under head coach Chad Campbell after losing to Bulloch Academy 28-20 last week. Stratford is 3-1 under head coach Paul Carroll after a 35-26 loss to Whitefield Academy.
Stratford has won three straight against Westfield. The teams last met in 2023.
Westlake at Houston County
Houston County hosts unbeaten Westlake at Freedom Field.
The Bears are 2-1 after losing a 73-66 overtime game to Central of Carrollton last week. Westlake enters Friday at 4-0 and is averaging 47.8 points per game.
Houston County has an open week after Friday’s game before beginning region play against Tift County.
Baldwin at Howard
Baldwin and Howard open Region 2-4A play at Ed DeFore Sports Complex after both teams had last week off.
The Braves are 3-0 under head coach Kevin Patterson and are averaging 34 points per game.
Howard is 1-2 under head coach Trey Porter. The Huskies opened the season with a win over Southwest before losing to Valdosta and Perry.
Baldwin has won all 11 meetings between the two programs dating back to 2010.
Edmund Burke at Mount de Sales
Two unbeaten teams meet at Mike Garvin Stadium as Mount de Sales hosts Edmund Burke.
The Cavaliers improved to 5-0 with a 36-6 win over Robert Toombs last week. It’s the program’s first 5-0 start since 2019. Mount de Sales is averaging 29.2 points per game while allowing just 5.2.
Edmund Burke enters the non-region matchup at 4-0 and is allowing seven points per game.
Westside at Mary Persons
Westside and Mary Persons bring matching 2-1 records into their Region 2-4A opener at Dan Pitts Stadium.
Westside, led by head coach James Harris, has won two straight after beating Southwest 35-24 last week.
Mary Persons had last week off. Head coach Brian Nelson’s Bulldogs are averaging 38.7 points per game.
It’s the first meeting between the Bulldogs and Seminoles since 2013. The two met four straight years starting in 2010 and split the four meetings.
