Telfair County Schools delays start of school year to August 12 due to Tropical Storm Debby

MCRAE-HELENA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Telfair County students will now begin the school year on Monday, August 12, instead of Friday, August 9, due to disruptions caused by Tropical Storm Debby, the Telfair County School District announced on Wednesday.

According to the district, the storm impacted the pre-planning schedule and staff training, which led to the schedule adjustment.

Rescheduled open house events for Telfair County Schools

In addition to delaying the start of the school year, the district has rescheduled its Open House events to Friday, August 9. The updated schedule is as follows:

  • Pre-K Open House: 9 to 11 a.m.
  • Telfair Elementary Open House: 1 to 3 p.m.
  • Telfair Middle and High School Open House: 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
