Taylor County substitute teacher arrested for slapping student
Fred Wimberly with the GBI says Jessie Carter is charged with two counts of simple battery and one count of cruelty to children in the first degree. Both charges are considered misdemeanor offenses. Wimberly says Taylor County Sheriff Jeff Watson called the GBI in to investigate the incident on Thursday.
Wimberly says the student is fine. 41NBC’s Skyler Henry spoke to Taylor County Superintendent Dr. Gary Gibson. He says Carter hasn’t done anything like this before. She’s been subbing with the school system since February 2011.
Gibson says until this situation is figured out in court or with the GBI, Carter will not be asked to substitute in the school district.
Carter bonded out of jail on Wednesday on a $7500 bond.
