Taylor County football aiming for return to playoffs in new classification

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Taylor County head football coach Chris Kirksey was the first to step into 41 NBC’s Coaches’ Corner with Bill Shanks. This will be Kirksey’s 11th season with the Vikings, but this year will be a little different as they move from Region 4 in Class AA to Region 4 in Class A.
Despite the change in classifications, Kirksey feels the transition won’t necessarily make much of a difference.  He feels there is good football to be played in Class A.

Coming off a 6-5 season last year, the Vikings have a lot to look forward to this season. One of them is returning quarterback James Whiteman.  Whiteman, a rising senior, has seen plenty of action with the Vikings in the spread offense for the last two years. Kirksey also says he’ll have key players returning at the running back, wide receiver, and tight end positions.

On defense, the Vikings return just four starters, but Kirksey is excited about the amount of young players the Vikings will have this season.

Taylor County’s first game will be August 29 at East Laurens High School in Dublin.
