Swimmers return to Lake Tobesofkee after E. coli scare

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – People have returned to enjoying Lake Tobesofkee after a health scare.

The Claystone area of the lake was closed Thursday to swimmers due to high levels of E. coli. The lake reopened around 11 a.m. Saturday when test results of the water came back normal.

“We did some more tests and we got the results back today and everything is negative,” says the Macon Water Authority Vice Chairman, Frank Patterson. “So, it’s good to go, fun in the sun.”

Patterson says they will continue to test the water at Lake Tobesofkee every two weeks throughout the summer.
