Suspect Charged In Attack At Openai Ceo Sam Altman’s San Francisco Home

(CNN)- Federal and local authorities in San Francisco have announced attempted murder and attempted arson charges against a man accused of targeting the home of Sam Altman.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the suspect allegedly threw an incendiary device at Altman’s residence in what officials describe as a deliberate and planned attack.

“Today’s charges outline a dangerous and deliberate plan to bring violence into San Francisco,” said Matt Cobo, Acting Special Agent in Charge. “This was not spontaneous. This was planned, targeted and extremely serious.”

Authorities say after the initial attack, the suspect went on to OpenAI headquarters, where he allegedly struck the glass doors with a chair and made threats.

San Francisco Police say the suspect, identified as Daniel Moreno-Gama of Texas, was taken into custody at the scene.

“The individual … was in possession of additional incendiary devices,” said Deputy Chief Luke Martin with the San Francisco Police Department, adding that the suspect also threatened to burn down OpenAI’s headquarters.

Officials say the charges were announced the same day FBI agents reportedly conducted a raid at Moreno-Gama’s home in Texas.

Investigators allege the suspect traveled across state lines with the intent to target both an individual and a major technology company.

According to authorities, police also recovered a document written by the suspect that expressed opposition to artificial intelligence. Investigators say the document included references to killing Altman, as well as a list of names and addresses tied to apparent AI company executives, board members and investors.
