Sunny Days are Back Again!

MACON, Georgia. (41 NBC/WMGT) – Good Morning, Middle Georgia! Unlike last week, we’re starting the day off with nothing but sunshine and a few clouds out there. This will be the trend for the week. Last week was all about a stationary front, which kept the atmosphere unstable and a low pressure system that brought more storms and cooler temperatures. This week, a high pressure system builds into the southeast, which will keep our skies mostly clear (minus a few clouds) and our afternoon temperatures on the warmer side!

Today, our high temperature will lag a little bit due to a cold front that passed through this weekend. We’ll warm to 83 degrees by this afternoon. Expect mostly sunny skies today, though by the dinnertime hours there may be more clouds in our northeastern counties (Baldwin, Hancock, Washington). Clear skies overnight will allow for maximum radiational cooling to occur. This means that long-wave radiation absorbed by the Earth during the daytime will be able to escape back into the atmosphere overnight – resulting in cooler temperatures. By tomorrow morning, the low will be in the mid-50’s, about 56 degrees.

As high pressure remains over the southeast this week, our temperatures will climb into the upper 80’s by Wednesday, peaking at 90 by Thursday. Right now, the main part of the work week looks dry and hot. If you’re starting to make plans for Memorial Day weekend, there’s a slight chance of rain on both Saturday and Sunday. I’ll keep an eye on the weather for this weekend and be sure to keep you all updated if the forecast changes. Hopefully the wet weather won’t put a damper on your holiday weekend plans!
