Students Plan for Their Future at Middle Georgia Career Fair

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Tenth graders from across Middle Georgia had the chance to meet with business and education leaders to talk about their future.

High schools from Houston, Peach and Dooly counties participated in this years Middle Georgia Career fair on Wednesday. Students met with businesses to figure out what they can do now to prepare for their future. They talked to representatives from all kinds of industries. School officials say it was also a chance to work on their people skills.

“They’re working with students on soft skills such as how to make a proper introduction, they’re working on handshakes and things like that,” Dr. Barbara Wall, director of Career Technology and Agriculture Education at Houston County schools, said. “They’re also talking about why these skills are so important in the workforce.>

During the career fair, students marked cards as they went around the room and asked different questions. Wall says this gives students the chance to look at career options they may not have considered.

41 NBC’s Amanda Castro and morning meteorologist Marco La Mano were at the career fair answering students questions about the industry. They talked about what classes you should take to break into the news business and what a normal day is like for a reporter and weather man.
