Strong winds and rain expected overnight into Thursday

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Scattered showers and powerful wind gusts are likely to begin Thursday morning across Middle Georgia as a cold front moves through.

Sunny skies from the afternoon will see clouds fill in through the evening and into the overnight hours. Wind will also increase as it stays out of the south-southwest. Gusts by tomorrow morning will likely range from 30-40 mph. No rain is expected before midnight, however by tomorrow morning some scattered showers and perhaps a rumble of thunder are likely. Despite the powerful ambient winds no severe weather is expected.

Scattered showers will likely be ongoing as the sun rises Thursday morning. Winds will be out of the west-northwest throughout the day at 10-20 mph. Gusts will likely hang in the 30-35 mph range. Skies overhead will slowly clear from a cloudy start throughout the day.

Despite it being the first day of spring afternoon highs will only reach into the low to mid 60s in the afternoon.

Overnight expect mostly clear skies and low temperatures dropping into the mid to upper 30s. Winds will still be pretty strong from the northwest as they range from 7-17 mph. Gusts will still push 25 mph.

Friday and Beyond

Friday will be a sunny and pleasant day as highs reach into the mid to upper 60s, or a few degrees below average for this time of year. Winds will be a lot calmer than Thursday as they flow from the west at around 5 mph. Friday is also the first day of the Cherry Blossom Festival. Weather all weekend looks good for those festivities as highs in the 70s return Saturday and rain odds should hold off until overnight Sunday.
