Macon attorney Steven McNeel announces run for Georgia Senate District 18

McNeel, a Republican attorney and timber farmer, says he wants to promote pro-agriculture and pro-business policies in Middle Georgia.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Attorney and family farmer Steven McNeel has announced his candidacy for Georgia State Senate District 18.

According to a news release from his campaign, McNeel is running to represent District 18, which includes Houston, Bibb, Peach, Crawford, Upson and Monroe counties.

State Senator John Kennedy (R), who currently holds the seat, recently announced he is running for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia.

He lives in Macon with his wife, Mollie, and their three children. The release says McNeel has been married for 20 years and is a partner at the law firm Buzzell, Welsh & Hill. He also owns and operates a timber farm.

“As a husband, a father, a farmer, and as an attorney, I will work to make sure Middle Georgia remains a great place to live, work and raise a family,” McNeel said.

McNeel is a graduate of the University of Georgia and Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law. His wife is a pharmacist who works at two independent pharmacies. The release says McNeel is active in the Georgia Republican Party and has worked on multiple campaigns at the local, state and federal levels.

“In talking with my neighbors, fellow farmers, agri-business owners, civic leaders and business owners, access to high quality education, low taxes, and support for law enforcement are the keys to keeping our economy growing,” McNeel said.

According to the release, McNeel’s campaign priorities include creating a pro-jobs, pro-business, and pro-agriculture environment, protecting life, defending religious liberty and supporting Second Amendment rights.

“I hope you will join me in this effort, and I am asking for your vote for State Senator,” he said.
