Staton donating television station to Mercer University

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — President and CEO of Georgia Eagle Media, Cecil Staton, said he’s giving the company’s only television station, WRWR, to Mercer University to expand it’s journalism program.

Staton told 41NBC over the phone Thursday that he and his partner, Dr. Joe Sam Robinson, have been talking with President of Mercer, Bill Underwood, for several months now regarding donating the station to the university.

The take-over is expected to happen on April 1st.

Staton believes this is going to be a great gift for the school that’s going to benefit the entire community.

He said the station’s studio will eventually move to Mercer’s campus. He expects that to happen in the coming months.

Staton also mentioned he recently sold two of Georgia Eagle Media’s other radio stations.

WRWR began broadcasting in September 2010.
