State Senator wants to change Gordon city charter

GORDON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – State Senator David Lucas is proposing a change to the city of Gordon’s charter.

He bought an advertisement in a Wilkinson County newspaper that runs tomorrow publicizing his plans.

The democrat says he wants to prevent groups from having the power to remove an elected official from office without a court’s approval.

Senator Lucas says he wants other lawmakers to see Gordon’s charter does not mirror others across the state.

“Let them look at this policies and take the Gordon charter and look at what’s the best policy dealing with the model charter that the Georgia Municipal Association has,” said Lucas.

41NBC talked with with some members of the The Concerned Citizens of Gordon.

They’re upset with Senator Lucas’ efforts, saying this goes against their year-long court battles with Mayor Mary Ann Whipple-Lou.

We also reached out to the mayor for a comment, but we didn’t hear back.
