State Senate passes Milledgeville-Baldwin County unification bill

ATLANTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Milledgeville-Baldwin County Unification bill is heading to the governor’s desk for his signature.

The State Senate approved House Bill 67 Wednesday with a vote of 45-6. State Senator Burt Jones tells 41NBC the bill was on the local consent calendar, which means several pieces of legislation were voted on. Jones adds the six dissenting votes were not against the unification bill.

HB 67 would unify the Milledgeville and Baldwin County governments into one entity. It would also allow the voters to decide how they want to be governed.

Jones says once the bill is signed into law, the local election superintendents will determine when it will be on a ballot.

The State House of Representatives passed HB 67 earlier this month.
