State Rep. Rusty Kidd talks about upcoming 2015 legislative session

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – State Representative Rusty Kidd says now may be the time for casinos to come to Georgia. 41NBC’s Amanda Castro caught up with the Milledgeville representative to find out what he expects lawmakers will work on this year at the Capitol.

Kidd (I-District 145) says medical marijuana will be a big topic this year. The lawmaker says he voted for it last year and probably will vote for it again this year.

Kidd adds healthcare will be a major topic of discussion. He says now may be the time for casinos to come to Georgia. The representative says the revenues could go to expand Medicaid and cover indigent care at regional and rural hospitals. Kidd adds another way to bring in revenue would legalize horse racing.

The lawmaker says the unification of Milledgeville and Baldwin County could be brought up this year. Kidd says he didn’t know about the plans until last December and it was too late to put it in the proper format. Kidd says he formed a committee to draft a charted proposal. If it is passed by the legislature, it would be put on the general ballot for residents to vote on.

The legislative session starts on January 12.
