State Rep. Hosting Second Annual Stand Down Event for Middle Georgia Vets

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — State Representative James Beverly is working with the VFW in Macon and dozens of organizations to bring veterans an opportunity to get free health screenings, but that’s not all.

Beverly is hosting the second annual “Central Georgia’s Home Front Stand Down.”

At the event, there’s a chance for vets to meet with members of the labor department, various middle Georgia companies and doctors. They’ll even get help filling out benefits paperwork.

At last year’s event about 300 veterans showed up, but Beverly adds only about 10% were women. This year he’s tailoring the event toward women, and hoping at least 500 vets come out.

“50 service organizations have signed up. Over 200 volunteers are going to be there, so it’s going to be a big deal… We want all veterans to come out, but this year we really want our women veterans to know we’re there for you and whatever you need we’re going to be able to take care of it. Hopefully on that day and if not, have a subsequent follow up,” said Beverly.

Beverly also praised VFW member Ronnie Miley, and project coordinator Brian Faulds for their committment to making the event great.

The “Stand Down” is happening Friday, September 6th at VFW Post 9709 on Key Street in Macon.
